Install ArtCraft Apps on Windows

The Craft apps publish native Windows builds for x64, arm64 and 32-bit x86, as installers and as portable zips. The ArtCraft Launcher is the easiest way to install and update several apps at once.

What is supported

  • Windows 10 and 11 are listed for the ArtCraft Launcher.
  • Builds exist for x64, arm64 and x86 (installer or portable zip).
  • VectorCraft also lists an experimental, unsupported 64-bit Windows 7 build.

Steps

  1. 01Pick a source

Use the ArtCraft Launcher release, or open the Releases page of the single app you want. Only download from github.com/storytold or getartcraft.com.

  2. 02Download the right build

Choose x64 for most PCs, arm64 for Windows-on-Arm devices, x86 only for 32-bit systems. Pick the portable zip if you do not want to install anything.

  3. 03Verify the checksum (optional but quick)

Each release ships a SHA256SUMS.txt file. Compare it with the hash of your download.

    Get-FileHash .\your-download.zip -Algorithm SHA256
  4. 04Run it

Run the installer, or unzip the portable build and start the executable. Open a file, or launch the app with a file path.

Troubleshooting

SmartScreen warns about an unknown publisher
These are young open-source projects. Confirm the download came from the official GitHub release page and matches SHA256SUMS.txt before choosing to continue.
The window is blank or very slow on an older PC
WordCraft documents falling back to a slower renderer on some older Windows machines, with workarounds that use the WGPU_BACKEND setting. GridCraft defaults to DirectX 12 only to avoid a driver crash and documents a workaround. Check the README of the app you installed.
Which build should I use on Windows ARM?
Use the arm64 build. EffectCraft notes that its Windows ARM64 CI installs and runs the CLI but does not open the app window natively, so expect rough edges there.
