Install ArtCraft Apps on Linux

Linux builds are published as AppImage, Flatpak, .deb, .rpm and tarballs for x86_64 and aarch64, plus a riscv64 tarball. FreeBSD 14 x86_64 tarballs exist too.

What is supported

  • x86_64 and aarch64 in AppImage, Flatpak, deb, rpm and tarball form.
  • riscv64 is tarball-only.
  • The ArtCraft Launcher lists glibc 2.35+ for x86_64/aarch64 and glibc 2.39+ for RISC-V.
  • The main ArtCraft studio app has Windows and macOS downloads; Linux means building from source.

Steps

  1. 01Pick a package format

AppImage needs no install, Flatpak sandboxes the app, deb and rpm integrate with your package manager, and the tarball is the fallback for other architectures.

  2. 02Verify the checksum

Compare the download with SHA256SUMS.txt from the release.

    sha256sum ./your-download.AppImage
  3. 03Make it executable (AppImage)

Mark the AppImage executable, then run it.

    chmod +x ./your-download.AppImage && ./your-download.AppImage
  4. 04Or build from source

Install the Rust toolchain (the launcher asks for Rust 1.90+, DesignCraft and CADCraft for 1.95+), clone the repo and run the release build.

    git clone https://github.com/storytold/photocraft
    cd photocraft
    cargo run --release -p photocraft

Troubleshooting

Drag-and-drop does not work on Wayland
PhotoCraft and EffectCraft document that native Wayland does not deliver file drag-and-drop yet. Use File > Import / Open, or run the app under XWayland.
Which architecture do I need?
Run uname -m. x86_64 is a normal 64-bit PC, aarch64 is 64-bit Arm. riscv64 only has tarballs.
The app is missing CJK fonts
PhotoCraft and DesignCraft use system CJK fonts by default and can use the optional craft-fonts repository via CRAFT_FONTS_DIR when building from source.
