VectorCraft: The Open-Source Illustrator Alternative in the ArtCraft Suite
Updated 2026-10-11
VectorCraft is the vector graphics editor in the ArtCraft suite - positioned against Adobe Illustrator. It brings the pen-tool-and-artboards workflow to a free, open-source, Rust-native application.
What it replaces
The Illustrator model: bezier pen tools, pathfinder-style shape operations, artboards, strokes and fills, text on paths. The interface deliberately tracks Illustrator's so vector artists can move without relearning.
What it does today
- Full bezier pen and path editing toolset.
- Shape building operations (unite, subtract, intersect, exclude).
- Multiple artboards for multi-artwork documents.
- SVG import/export as a first-class format.
- Text tools with path support.
Where it is rough
- No plugin/script ecosystem yet.
- Advanced features (mesh gradients, perspective tools) are thin.
- AI file compatibility is partial - SVG is the safer interchange.
- Brush and effects systems are simpler than Illustrator's.
Who it suits now
Logo work, icon design, flat illustration and SVG-first workflows are usable today. Power users of Illustrator's deep feature set will hit walls.
