Craft Apps
CADCraft: The Open-Source AutoCAD Alternative in Rust
Updated 2026-10-11
CADCraft is the CAD and drafting app in the Craft App Suite - an open-source, clean-room AutoCAD-style application in pure Rust. Its README says it is in early, fast development.
What it does today
- AutoCAD-style command line with prompts, aliases and AutoComplete.
- Object snaps, polar tracking and grid snap; drawing, modify and array tools.
- Layers and a Properties palette; dimensions, multileaders, tables and TrueType text.
- Hatches, blocks and attributes; paper-space layouts with PDF plotting; geometric and dimensional constraints.
- DXF read/write, DWG support through the acadrust library, and SVG/PNG export.
- English and Ukrainian interfaces; MCP server, JSON control channel and CLI.
Where it is rough
- SHX fonts are not read yet; SHX text is drawn with the built-in stroke font.
- Entities CADCraft does not model are dropped on save.
- Writing DWG is limited to the R2000 format.
- See ROADMAP.md and docs/gaps.md for the full parity list. Builds need Rust 1.95 or later.
Common questions
Where is the CADCraft GitHub repository?
github.com/storytold/cadcraft, dual-licensed MIT or Apache-2.0.
Can CADCraft open DWG files?
DWG support goes through the acadrust library, and writing is limited to the R2000 format. DXF is the safer interchange.
